Q: What is Medicare Health Support?

A: Medicare Health Support is a new program from Medicare, available to invited chronically ill beneficiaries in Tennessee and seven other states. In Tennessee, these services are provided by XLHealth. As an important component of modernizing and strengthening Medicare, the programs goal is to support the physicians plan of care by providing additional education and helpful services to participants. These services are provided by XLHealth.

Q: Will the Medicare Health Support Team interfere with my treatment plan?

A: No, actually the opposite is true. The goal of the Medicare Health Support team is to help support the physicians treatment plan. The Medicare Health Support nurses act as teachers and coaches to help reinforce the physicians treatment plan, improve patient self-care and help patients become more proactive in preventative care.

Q: If my patients participate in Medicare Health Support, will their Medicare benefits be reduced?

A: No. Your patients continue receiving all the same Medicare benefits they currently receive, plus assistance from a Medicare Health Support Team. Their eligibility, their coverage, and doctors and hospitals remain the same.

Q: How will this program affect my office visits with patients? Will their access to care be limited?

A: Participation in Medicare Health Support in no way changes a beneficiarys Medicare coverage, provider, access to care, or claims administration. Physicians may begin to see their patients become more actively engaged in treatment, better educated about their conditions and more aware of possible options for preventative care.

Q: What areas of the country will be served by the Medicare Health Support program?

A: Tennessee is one of eight states of the country where Medicare beneficiaries will take part in Medicare Health Support. Nationally the pilot program will be serving approximately 160,000 fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries.
